I've been thinking about selling at times, but for now, I'm holding on. The long-term prospects still look good for the most part.
<p>But, I had been looking at various trading ideas and wanted to capture a shorter-term gain for a trading account. The market has been so tough this year. When the recent rally in the indexes started, I didn't want to become part of the group that was desperate to get in on the action, only to expose my portfolio to more risk than necessary. Believe me, when you're afraid of missing a rally, you just might end up with some bad timing. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/02/my-activision-blizzard-trade/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>My Activision Blizzard trade</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/02/my-activision-blizzard-trade/">My Activision Blizzard trade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 15:15:00 EST. <span style="FONT-STYLE: italic">TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says stock prices may roll back, but techs and financials should be fine. </span><br /><br />The pain of the aftermath of mark-ups never goes away. We knew what was in store for us, as the mark-up folks don't like to play on the last day, especially with the newly vigilant Securities and Exchange Commission. I have to believe that this SEC will now become more interested in "the tapes," which would show clients asking brokers to take stocks up as much as they can, something that we know is against the law. <br /><br />What comes up from mark-up must come down, and the most important "come-downs" should be in the industrials, because we have the least visibility in them. I do not believe the techs have as much to worry about, nor the banks, because both have excellent earnings prospects for the coming quarter. Why sell <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">Apple</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=AAPL" target="blank">Cramer's Take</a>) here? Why sell <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/microsoft-corporation/msft/nas">Microsoft</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/microsoft-corporation/msft/nas">MSFT</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=MSFT" target="blank">Cramer's Take</a>)? And why dump <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/wells-fargo-and-company/wfc/nys">Wells Fargo</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/wells-fargo-and-company/wfc/nys">WFC</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=WFC" target="blank">Cramer's Take</a>) or <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-of-america-corporation/bac/nys">Bank of America</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/bank-of-america-corporation/bac/nys">BAC</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=BAC" target="blank">Cramer's Take</a>) or <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jp-morgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPMorgan Chase</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/jp-morgan-chase-and-co/jpm/nys">JPM</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=JPM" target="blank">Cramer's Take</a>) when those have the best possibilities of good news ahead? I can see locking in some <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-goldman-sachs-group-inc/gs/nys">Goldman Sachs</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/the-goldman-sachs-group-inc/gs/nys">GS</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=GS" target="blank">Cramer's Take</a>) gains, but that's going to be the best quarter of all.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/01/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-the-post-mark-up-could-sting-industria/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cramer on BloggingStocks: The post-mark-up could sting industrials </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/07/01/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-the-post-mark-up-could-sting-industria/">Cramer on BloggingStocks: The post-mark-up could sting industrials </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 10:00:00 EST. I came up empty-handed. One of my ideas was <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/activision-blizzard-inc/atvi/nas">Activision Blizzard</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/activision-blizzard-inc/atvi/nas">ATVI</a>). I was intrigued this week by reports that said the company wants to have the <a href="http://adage.com/article?article_id=137395">launch to end all launches</a> for the next <em>Call of Duty</em> title. Quite frankly, I think there's a chance the company will succeed with this. So, naturally, my thoughts turned to shares of Activision Blizzard as a possible buy candidate. Although I already own the stock in a longer-term, taxed portfolio, I wanted a trade for my Roth IRA.</p>
<p>Well, I couldn't buy the company. It's up today (3% at the time of this writing), and I do not want to buy any stock when it's up. Not now, at any rate. The market has come too far too fast, in my opinion, and I want to trade carefully. But, while looking at Activision Blizzard, I came across this article from Ben Kuchera over at <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/06/activision-leaving-ps3-psp-doubtful-but-threat-remains.ars">Ars Technica</a>. He discusses comments made by the publisher's CEO, Bobby Kotick, on <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">Sony Corporation</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/sony-corporation/sne/nys">SNE</a>) and its PlayStation platforms. </p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/19/activision-blizzard-ceo-bobby-kotick-needs-to-tone-down-rhetoric/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick needs to tone down rhetoric</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/19/activision-blizzard-ceo-bobby-kotick-needs-to-tone-down-rhetoric/">Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick needs to tone down rhetoric</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 19 Jun 2009 17:20:00 EST. Not only a necessity for mainstream e-commerce sites, it also increases efficiency, is scalable, and <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/41222">lowers expenses</a>. The monetary savings may be misleading to consumers and businesses who do not fully understand the potential risks involved.</p>
<p>With a pay-as-you-go type structure, users are only charged for the amount of traffic, bandwidth, and memory used. Online businesses become more efficient by only utilizing the storage and space needed, while also being assured capacity for any usage increases. The buzz has been building for years, so cloud computing has attracted a diverse customer base, ranging from popular social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, to educational websites of Arizona State and Northwestern University.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/18/cloud-computing-advantages-and-disadvantage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cloud computing: Advantages and disadvantage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/18/cloud-computing-advantages-and-disadvantage/">Cloud computing: Advantages and disadvantage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 18 Jun 2009 15:20:00 EST. Didn't <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/microsoft-corporation/msft/nas">Microsoft</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/microsoft-corporation/msft/nas">MSFT</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=MSFT">Cramer's Take</a>) just say -- admittedly for the 4 millionth time -- that it was going to give away free anti-virus software? Or <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/citrix-systems-inc/ctxs/nas">Citrix</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/citrix-systems-inc/ctxs/nas">CTXS</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=CTXS">Cramer's Take</a>)? What's that all about? How could it return to those levels? <br /><br /> There were rumors of a <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cisco-systems-inc/csco/nas">Cisco</a> (NASDAQ: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cisco-systems-inc/csco/nas">CSCO</a>) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=CSCO">Cramer's Take</a>) takeover a week or two ago, and, amazingly, when it didn't come true, the stock hung in. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/15/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-techs-unjustified-super-bull-market-r/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cramer on BloggingStocks: Tech's unjustified super bull market run </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/15/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-techs-unjustified-super-bull-market-r/">Cramer on BloggingStocks: Tech's unjustified super bull market run </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 09:50:00 EST. NPD Group released its video game sales data yesterday afternoon, reflecting sales that <a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/story/video-game-sales-fall-for-third-straight-month">fell to $448.9 million during May</a>. These monthly results are 17% lower than the same period last year. The drop in software sales was somewhat expected, as the Street called for a drop between 15% and 20%. Hardware sales dropped 30% during May, totaling $302.5 million. <br /><br />But the comparisons are difficult as major hits were released during spring 2008, including <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em>, <em>Mario Kart</em>, and <em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em>. There were no such major hits released this year.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/12/video-game-sales-drop-as-recovery-is-still-far-away/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video game sales drop again; recovery still far away</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/12/video-game-sales-drop-as-recovery-is-still-far-away/">Video game sales drop again; recovery still far away</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 10:30:00 EST. <span style="font-style: italic;">TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says China and the fund managers have a huge influence on price action. </span><br /><br /> We got Japanese steel price increases last night to stay in line with the recent American price increases. We have copper at a multiple-month high and looking like it will go higher. <br /><br /> Do you know what the common denominator of those two prices increases is? <br /><br /> Little to no demand outside of China. That's right, steel capacity is running about 40% worldwide. There's been no increase in copper capacity because there is no real demand. Both steel and copper companies are citing raw costs -- iron for steel and energy for copper -- as reasons they "have to" raise prices, even though Richard Adkerson, the CEO of Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) (<a target="blank" href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=FCX">Cramer's Take</a>) admitted yesterday in an interview with Bloomberg that there isn't any "real" demand outside of China. <p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/11/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-the-new-normal-for-commodities-pricing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cramer on BloggingStocks: The new normal for commodities pricing </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/11/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-the-new-normal-for-commodities-pricing/">Cramer on BloggingStocks: The new normal for commodities pricing </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 11 Jun 2009 10:15:00 EST. Apparently, the company has finally taken note of all the red on its financials and is mercifully pulling the plug on the program.</p>
<p>According to <a href="http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10261742-56.html?part=rss&amp;subj=news&amp;tag=2547-1_3-0-20">CNet's Ina Fried</a>, Microsoft will put the program down tomorrow. It is currently only distributed online, and the company will discontinue updating it for current users after January of 2011. </p>
<p>I don't expect much wailing and gnashing of teeth from those savvy enough to track their finances with a computer program. Quicken has proven a reliable program so widely adopted that it serves as a template for other, similar programs.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/10/say-goodbye-to-microsoft-money/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Say goodbye to Microsoft Money</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/06/10/say-goodbye-to-microsoft-money/">Say goodbye to Microsoft Money</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 10 Jun 2009 17:15:00 EST.
